Company History - Profotos.com

The original idea for Profotos.com began on November, 15, 1999, when Owner/Founder, Larry Davis, announced plans to develop an extensive professional photography website. Larry's idea stemmed from his extensive knowledge of photography on the Internet and what was currently being offered to professional photographers online. His idea was to change the face of professional photography sites on the Internet, by developing a site where professionals could gain recognition and exposure for very little money.

Through many months of planning, programming and troubleshooting, Larry's idea quickly evolved into a massive site (among the top 5% in the world in size), where professional photographers would be able to obtain what Larry was after - recognition and exposure. The first few months of the project were quite difficult and demanding, as Larry attempted to piece together a plan to integrate several methods for photographers to utililze on the site. These methods included: gallery space; educational areas; a photographer directory; buy&sell areas; a help section, complete with an extensive FAQ's area and site tutorial; a member's area; various services (photographer list, monthly newsletter, etc); as well as several other methods. Larry had the task of piecing all of these methods together into one cohesive site, where professional photographers could accomplish what they were after on the Internet.

The basis behind Profotos.com was and still is, to help professional photographers, and not to make a lot of money. While we do need to take care of supporting the technical "back-end" and staff time at profotos.com, Larry realizes that the majority of commercial Internet sites are online primarily to make cash and not to satisfy the needs of visitors. He wants Profotos.com to be a site where its visitors and members will be satisfied, while the income into the site will be enough to keep the site going. Larry's vision is to help photographers and not to gouge their pocketbooks by charging a very high price for the services on Profotos Online. While other professional photography sites are charging $50 or more per month for their primary service(s), Larry has decided that Profotos Online will offer its primary services to photographers for as little as $5/month!

Through all of the services offered on Profotos.com, Larry and his staff of advisors and assistants, hope to make the Site one of the most recognized sites on the Internet for professional photography.
