My name is Vincent Lagana (Vinnie), I was born in Brooklyn, NY, 11-29-55. I traveled in many parts of the world, and lived on 3 different continents (North America, Europe, and Asia), served 3 years in the U.S. Army and am a disabled Veteran. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Maryland in Sociology with minors in Early Education and Psychology.
I am basically a self taught photographer. I’ve worked as a part-time photographer since 1981 (first published work appeared in Newsweek’s Special Issue of February 2, 1981) and worked as a full-time elementary school teacher with the U.S. Overseas Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Germany and Italy, from where I retired in December 1996. I wanted to legitimize my photography skills, and earned a Certificate of Graduation in Professional Photography from the New York Institute of Photography on 8 July 1992. In 1997 I had a full-time licensed photography studio in Italy.
My photography talents are as diverse as my life travels/residencies. I specialize in Concerts, Sports, Special Events, Portraiture, Still Life, Scenics, and Nature.
1981-1994 held a successful studio portrait contractor wiyh the U.S. Air Force in addition to contributing and selling my photographs and photographic services to magazines, newspapers, and professional organizations such as Newsweek, Easyriders Magazine, Photographer’s Forum Magazine, Superbasket (Italian basketball magazine), Bikers Life Magazine (Italian equivalent to Easyriders Magazine), Il Gazzettino (Italian newspaper), La Ghirada News (United Colors of Benetton professional basketball weekly newspaper), Benetton Basket (The United Colors of Benetton Professional Basketball Team), Verde Sport Spa. (United Colors of Benetton professional basketball promoters and sports complex/arena owners), and in 1995 I became a contributing Member of Today’s Photographer Magazine.
I have photographed concerts of grand caliber such as: Pink Floyd, Carlos Santana, Lou Reed, Jethro Tull, Jackson Brown, David Crosby, Alan Parsons Project, Yes, Joe Satriani, The Monsters of Rock, Steve Winwood, etc.,The Jay Leno 1995 Christmas Show on Aviano Air Base, 1995 Venice Film Festival, NBA Tour’94 in Bologna, Italy, and the 1981 freeing of the Ex-American Hostages of Iran on Wiesbaden Air Base, Germany.
Since 1982, I have maintained a portrait photography contract with the U.S. Air Force on Aviano Air Base, Italy, not only photographing families, children, and individual soldiers but, also covering special Aviano Air Base events such as balls, dinners, plays, international biker rallies ( "Toys for Tots" ) USO Shows, and special celebrity visits to the local area.
